ammerhead Productions was founded in February, 1995 as a partnership among Jamie Dixon, Thad Beier, Rebecca Marie, and Dan Chuba. The four of us had worked together at Pacific Data Images, which was, at that time, a service company that created television commercials, show openings, and visual effects for other people's films. When they closed their Los Angeles film effects facility, we decided that it would be interesting to start a company of our own.

Our idea was to try to run a low-overhead, high-talent, film production house with visual effects as its core strength. By working towards owning the results of our labors, we hoped to be able to leverage our efforts into something more than we could do as employees elsewhere. As a service-only company, we felt that we would not have enough control over the projects that we worked on to make as big an impact as we wanted, so we added software, and film development projects to the mix, with the ultimate intent of producing films for ourselves and others.

Our formula is working. At Hammerhead, we've made our own film titled, Shadowbuilder, which was directed by Jamie. Dan and Jamie also produced the MGM/United Artists production Supernova, based on a screenplay adapted by Dan. We are involved with a project in development at Disney right now, a live action feature called Old. On top of that, we've sold hundreds of licenses of our software internationally, and Thad won an Academy Technical Achievement Award last year for the authorship of ras_track; one of our commercially available software programs. We continue to develop ideas for upcoming projects, and our contract visual effects work can be seen most recently in The Fast and the Furious, and in the upcoming action comedy, Showtime.
